Review of other students work 1

The first blog I am reviewing is Abi Glynns. Ill be disscusing the strengeths and weakness of her videos and blogs.
 
Thriller Strengths
Titles
 Black background and titles presented in a white and red colour. It is sans serif so it worked well of standing out and drawing a viewers eye. The two colours are very startling and contrasting. I like the use of the colours red and white and they symbolise innocence and danger and could resemble the idea that someone could look innocent but thats not the whole story.
A wipe is used for the title 'presents'. And used again in the next shot for the title 'Marvellous Movies'. I think this is a strength as it demonstrates skills and looks professional.
Camera angles
Abi uses a wide range of camera angles. Such as: A long shot as the antagonist walking past the camera onto field; An extreme close up of a volts box; A zoom out as he sits on the bench; A close up of the antagonist and slight pan across the tools hung on the wall.
Sound
Abi used a variety of sounds including abient sound and incidental music expecially and a voice over. The voice over is a good affect as it helps provide the viewer with extra information so they have a better understanding of what they are watching. The icidental music gives a good affect as it builds tension and works in time with the editng which makes it look professional. The ambieent sound is used when you can hear the sissors cutting and the surrounding sounds in the area. This helps to create verisimilitude.
Editing
When editing Abi created a flash a red and blue colour over the top of  the clip and uses this as a transition into the next clip. These colours are a good choice as they cna be used to resemble police sirens. Uses straight cuts, continuity editing,
mise-en scene
The antagonist is dressed in all black and wearing a black turtle kneck. This stands him out straight  away as the 'bad guy' but as the lead role aswell. 
The setting of a work shop room works well to create atmosphere and demonstrate what the progaonist is doing and reveals more inforamtion to the viewer. 
Thriller Weakness  
Titles 
One of the titles are presented in a blue colour sans serif font. This I believe is a weakness as it is completely different to everything else, as all the rest of the titles are presented in red and white. The blue looks to odd in comparrison. 
Sound
When ambient sound was used so viewers could hear the sissors cutting the hair, it was clear to me that the background sound was so startling loud and takes attention away from the scene. It gives an unprofessional aspect to the thriller. 
camera angles 
I think the camera angles work really well in this thriller and I dont beleve they can be improved.  
Editing
The editng didnt have a wide variety, which could ahve been improved upon.  
Mise-en scene. 
Use of lighting wasent included at all. All light used was natural lighting. Mixing it up abit here would have been good to establish dark turns etc. 
I dont beleive setting were used extensively or thought through to see what would create the best and most affective shots.
